Nihal Mehta

Economist

Nihal has a PhD in Economics from Penn State with a specialization in applied micro-econometrics. In his research, he combines structural modeling with machine learning to develop novel estimators and decision rules that are robust to model misspecification. He has applied these methods to quantify the effect of staffing mandates on labor demand and patient health in nursing homes, detect judicial bias in parole decisions, and evaluate education interventions aimed at improving outcomes for the lowest-performing students. Prior to his PhD, he spent two years in PwC’s analytics advisory practice.

In his free time, Nihal plays the piano, reads, and enjoys tennis and badminton. He is always on the lookout for niche YouTube explainer videos and deep focus playlists.
