Keystone’s Jeff Marowits Co-Authors Report on Taxation of Trademarks and Complementary Rights in Europe

May 5, 2022   /   2 Minute Read
International Trademark Association (INTA) Report

Jeff Marowits, President of Client Services at Keystone Strategy, recently sat down with Asia IP Magazine in advance of the report’s release to discuss “Taxation of Trademarks and Complementary Rights in Europe,” published in tandem with this year’s International Trademark Association (INTA) Annual Meeting Live+. The report, which examines tax implications within the trademark lifecycle in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, serves to provide brand legal professionals with a view of tax policy as it relates to global brands doing business in these regions.

Marowits, a member of INTA’s Research Advisory Council, Global Transactions and Tax Subcommittee, and a co-author of the report said, “There can be a lot of tension if the tax and the trademark attorneys are not talking early in the process. I would encourage trademark attorneys to engage with tax professionals and the accounting profession continually.”

The report is also part of INTA’s effort to teach and support trademark professionals, providing a framework to strengthen collaboration between trademark practitioners and tax professionals. Marowits continued, adding, “We hope that this series of reports will enable trademark professionals to remain at the table when the tax professionals do.”

The May 2022 report covers a breadth of topics under the trademark and complementary rights issues and provides the initial framework to strengthen collaboration between tax professionals and trademark practitioners. INTA’s Research Advisory Council and Commercialization of Brands Committee collaborated on the report. INTA members can find the members-only benefit online here.
